A contrast-sensitive reversible visible image watermarking technique
A reversible (also called lossless, distortion-free, or
invertible) visible watermarking scheme is proposed to satisfy the applications, in which the visible watermark is expected to combat copyright piracy but can be removed to losslessly recover the original image. We transparently reveal the watermark image by overlapping it on a user-specified region of the host image through adaptively adjusting the pixel values beneath the watermark, depending on the human visual system-based scaling factors. In order to achieve reversibility, a reconstruction/ recovery packet, which is utilized to restore the watermarked area, is reversibly inserted into non-visibly-watermarked region. The packet is established according to the difference image between the original image and its approximate version instead of its visibly watermarked version so as to alleviate its overhead. For the generation of the approximation, we develop a simple prediction technique that makes use of the unaltered neighboring pixels as auxiliary information. The recovery packet is uniquely encoded before hiding so that the original watermark pattern can be reconstructed based on the encoded packet. In this way, the image recovery process is carried out without needing the availability of the watermark. In addition, our method adopts data compression for further reduction in the recovery packet size and improvement in embedding capacity. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed scheme compared to the existing methods
Effects of relative orientation of the molecules on electron transport in molecular devices
Effects of relative orientation of the molecules on electron transport in
molecular devices are studied by non-equilibrium Green's function method based
on density functional theory. In particular, two molecular devices, with the
planer Au and Ag clusters sandwiched between the Al(100) electrodes
are studied. In each device, two typical configurations with the clusters
parallel and vertical to the electrodes are considered. It is found that the
relative orientation affects the transport properties of these two devices
completely differently. In the Al(100)-Au-Al(100) device, the conductance
and the current of the parallel configuration are much larger than those in the
vertical configuration, while in the Al(100)-Ag-Al(100) device, an
opposite conclusion is obtained
HLAreporter: a tool for HLA typing from next generation sequencing data
Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing from next generation sequencing (NGS) data has the potential for widespread applications. Here we introduce a novel tool (HLAreporter) for HLA typing from NGS data based on read-mapping using a comprehensive reference panel containing all known HLA alleles, followed by de novo assembly of the gene-specific short reads. Accurate HLA typing at high-digit resolution was achieved when it was tested on publicly available NGS data, outperforming other newly developed tools such as HLAminer and PHLAT. A novel energy management strategy for a ship's hybrid solar energy generation system using a particle swarm optimization algorithm
Due to the pressures caused by the energy crisis, environmental pollution, and international regulations, the largest ship-producing nations are exploring renewable resources, such as wind power, solar energy, and fuel cells to save energy and develop more environmentally-friendly ships. Solar energy has recently attracted a great deal of attention from both academics and practitioners; furthermore, the optimization of energy management has become a research topic of great interest. This paper takes a solar-diesel hybrid ship with 5000 car spaces as its research object. Then, following testing on this ship, experimental data were obtained, a multi-objective optimization model related to the ship’s fuel economy and diesel generator’s efficiency was established, and a partial swarm optimization algorithm was used to solve a multi-objective problem. The results show that the optimized energy management strategy for a hybrid energy system should be tested under different electrical loads. Moreover, the hybrid system’s economy should be taken into account when the ship’s power load is high, and the output power from the new energy generation system should be increased as much as possible. Finally, the diesel generators’ efficiency should be taken into consideration when the ship’s electrical load is low, and the injection power of the new energy system should be reduced appropriately.</jats:p
